Flow Notes The questions listed are guiding questions, and we like to tailor specific ones to our guests doing our homework as well.
Zoom (video call during pre-show, audio only for the recording) Zoom Meeting ID 563-593-5298. You can call 361-728-9502 or 361-331-1495 in case something happens last minute let us know.
Bio Do you have a 50-75 word bio that you’d like me to use?
Recording I’ll record the conversation using a mix-minus setup. No need to worry about doing a multi-ender…unless you really, really, want to and prefer it. If that makes no sense don’t worry. I suggest most people use earbuds or a headset and mic. If you can be somewhere with carpet and soft things that absorb sounds so the echo is low that works best.
Theme and Possible Title(s) Titles come best after the recording but if you have one to suggest that works too. (SPECIFIC AREAS OF INTEREST)
Show Format:
Opening/Intro by Jerry, short bio of you. Icebreaker by Jerry: It’s a surprise! Opening Question by Brandon: What caused you to decide “I don’t want to do this anymore” and moving beyond the rut?” (Or some variation of this.)
Main Driving Questions by Jerry
How did your life look before you started your current path. What has been the best lesson you learned? What would you say to the person listening that says they can’t do this? What is coming up and where will you be next?
Closing: 1. Last word of advice. 2. How to buy stuff/support you, and/or contact. 3. Outro
Talk to you later. Feel free to let me know if you have any questions or if you have questions I can add to the interview to best spotlight your story.
Interview Format (in order of preference)
1. In-person…if the guest happens to be in Corpus Christi, Texas at the time of the interview 2. Skype (video call during pre-show, audio only for the recording) 3. Google Hangouts (same as above) 4. Call-in
At best, we prefer our guests use a quality microphone with a headset. If that’s not possible, then at least earbuds so there is no feedback from the guest’s speakers. When all else fails, call in is possible.
The podcast is audio-only.
A weekly podcast to inspire, encourage, and equip you to make your own path to live the life you've always dreamed of. This podcast is for those who have felt shackled to an average life for way too long, and desire to live out the dreams they haven't yet acted upon.
About the host
Jerry Dugan, Beyond the RutBy day, I am an Education Consultant developing training for the largest international Catholic healthcare system. By night, I’m a tired consultant who spends his time either with his family or binge watching something stupid on Netflix. On weekends, however, is when I get the real work done for Beyond the Rut,TheRealJerryDugan.com, and my podcast Family Time Q&A (iTunes,Stitcher, or website) where I share my personal journey to build a marriage and family that leaves a legacy. Oh, I’m also short and afraid of heights, roller coasters, and zombies. Click here to see my serious LinkedIn profile if you’re into that sort of thing.
Audience Info
Our audience target is a 36-year old married man with two children. He’s college-educated, has a well-paying salary in a corporate job, and lives in a metropolitan area with a commute between 30 and 60 minutes each way Monday through Friday. His job, while well-paying, drains the life out of him. The relationships in his life are strained. There are dreams he hasn’t lived. Goals he hasn’t pursued. His life is in a rut, and he needs inspiration and tips on how to make his own path to create the life he always dreamed of living. He is seeking a career he loves, money to support his dream, and healthy and happy relationships with his family.
Our data suggests our actual audience is between 35 and 45 years old, both men and women, married and single. Parents and those without children.
Feedback has shown that people are drawn to two specific content areas: 1. Discussions around our own struggles with ruts (Brandon and Jerry) 2. Interviews with people who share their struggles in the rut and how they pulled themselves out with practical tips to our audience if they’re in the same boat.
